We have given some suggestions here but if you would like a specific colour or fabric type which is not shown, please let us know. The Egg chair is available on Quickship in certain fabric and leather finishes, please see below. Read more The Egg was originally designed for the lobby and reception of the Royal Hotel, however the chair
is versatile and is equally suitable in an informal setting. One advantage of this unique shape is the high and curved back of the chair which allows the user a sense of privacy. The exceptional comfort of the Egg chair is enhanced by the curved shell which cocoons the body. It is ideal for relaxing and lounging in, especially when paired with the ottoman. Jacobsen used his talent of sculpting when designing the Egg chair and used clay as a mould, until he found the perfect shape for the shell, showing his creative attitude of perfectionism. The Egg is formed of a foam inner shell which Jacobsen was the first to use. This layer is situated underneath the upholstery, of which there is a variety of fabric and leather. The base is comprised of satin polished aluminium and is a stylish contrast to the upholstery. Description: The Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair was the culminations of a new technique that Jacobsen pioneered with the Egg. Like a sculptor, Jacobsen first sculpted the Egg out of clay in his garage so he could perfect the shape. He then molded the Egg Chair out of a strong foam inner shell under the upholstery. The result is a wholly unique shape, meaning the Jacobsen Egg Chair affords privacy in otherwise public spaces. The Jacobsen Egg first appeared in the reception areas of the Royal Hotel, in Copenhagen. The commission to design every element of the hotel building as well as the furniture was Jacobsen’s grand opportunity to put his theories of integrated design and architecture into practice. The Egg is one of the triumphs of Jacobsen’s total design – a sculptural contrast to the building’s almost exclusively vertical and horizontal surfaces. NOTE: Footstool not included.
